It took less than an hour for the Sullivan Arena to be sold out for Elton's concert, prompting the addition of a second show.
Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Monday for the May 28 event.
Joe Wooden, regional general manager for arena management company SMG of Alaska, said they sold out of the allotted 8,100 tickets 58 minutes later.
A second performance has been added on May 30.
The Englishman has never been to Alaska before, but is coming later this month on a quest to hold concerts in every state in the United States.
He will play in Fairbanks on May 29, between the two Anchorage dates.
The Carlson Center in Fairbanks observed that sales for Elton's gig there set new records, Saturday, nearly selling out in just three and a half hours.
