According to Soundgenerator.com, Elton and David Furnish dashed out of their car when they got ready to tie the knot last year.
This is because they feared homophobic reprisals when they had a civil ceremony in December at Windsor's 17th century Guildhall, a small gathering with close family and friends in attendance - along with scores of reporters and paparazzi.
This was undertaken the same day as same-sex civil partnerships were brought to law - and, as Elton has revealed, he was concerned they would be targeted by protesters.
"We were worried we'd be pelted with eggs or flour so we rushed into the building," he says. "But then we came out afterwards and our families were there, and our friends, and I felt, 'wow, I can't believe this is happening.'"
And getting hitched has been a plus for David. He has noticed that he attracts a lot more attention nowadays, and says that while he is committed to the songster, ''it's nice to feel attractive.''
