''Lion King'' Singers Plan April 13 Show

Tuesday 4 April 2006 @ 17:48 - GMT

The London Community Gospel Choir, who have sung alongside the likes of Elton and Luther Vandross, will appear at Broxbourne Civic Hall High Street, Hoddesdon Thursday, April 13 at 7.30 p.m., according to the Borehamwood & Elstree Times.

The members, who contributed to The Lion King soundtrack, have also performed for Nelson Mandela during a visit to London, provided the music at Spice Girl Mel B's wedding, and represented the British Council at international festivals in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Founded by the Reverend Bazil Meade in 1982, they were the first concert gospel choir in the UK, and over the next 20 years nurtured more than 200 members from across London.

The vocalists feel as comfortable performing swing-beat and R'n'B, as they do singing traditional and soulful arrangements, and will be performing original work as well as classics such as Amazing Grace and Kumbaya on the night.

For tickets, costing £11 for terrace seats and £13 for stalls (£2 off for members), call the box office on 01992 441946.
