Above is an example of one of the celebrity lunchboxes to be auctioned off next month.
This one, full of gnomes, was designed by Elton.
As announced previously, one-hundred-plus names from the entertainment, fashion, art, music, literary and culinary worlds are creating personalised lunchbox art to be offered for an online sale to benefit two hunger relief organisations - Food Bank For New York City and The Lunchbox Fund of South Africa.
The Lunchbox Auction will go live on Friday, December 7, at 12 a.m. EST during a star-studded, invitation-only, fundraiser preview party and mini-auction, hosted by Michael Stipe, at Saatchi & Saatchi, beginning at 8 p.m. at 375 Hudson Street in Manhattan.
Besides Elton, some of the other box designers are the Beastie Boys, Ben Kingsley, Bob Gruen, Courtney Love, David Bowie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Joaquin Phoenix, Kanye West, Patti Smith, Rachael Ray, Rufus Wainwright, the Scissor Sisters, Sienna Miller and Yoko Ono.
Each lunchbox is reflective of the artists' personal expression and no two lunchboxes are alike. Each is also signed and numbered.
Bidding will run through Friday, December 21, at
www.thelunchboxauction.org, where there is a larger view of Elton's contribution, and some others'.
