Johnny Roadhouse Music has long been a place that prominent musicians look to for solid advice and competitive prices. As well a selection of new and vintage instruments, the store has a comprehensive equipment hire service and is the first port of call when touring bands play at the larger venues in Manchester. Clients also include the BBC and ITV.
Sadly, the proprietor of the shop, which is over half a century old, has passed on.
Johnny Roadhouse, who was once profiled by this site's Herman's Habits, was 88 years old. He died in his sleep on Saturday morning, and had been ill a short time before this.
The saxophonist played Elton's 50th birthday bash. In 2005, he was the recipient of Manchester's Lifetime Achievement Award.
His partner of 20 years, Ann Cowan, 66, of Chorlton, said: Everywhere Johnny went people remembered him. But he wasnt a bighead he wouldnt brag about anybody.
Music was his life, although he never had a music lesson.
He was a very good man and his loss will be deeply felt all over the world. To me he was a very special person and a special father to his four children.
