Matt Lucas is being comforted by close friends after being left grief-stricken by his ex-partner's suicide.
TV producer Kevin McGee was found hanged 10 months after the Little Britain comic split up with him.
The 35-year-old is said to be utterly destroyed and has pulled out of his starring role in a West End play. Coincentally, the storyline, Prick Up Your Ears, is a dark one. It is based on the book by John Lahr about Joe Orton and his lover Kenneth Halliwell (Lucas) who committed suicide after murdering Orton.
McGee, who had battled drug addiction, recently changed his Facebook profile status at 5am yesterday to read: Kevin McGee thinks that death is much better than life.
Concerned friends alerted police, but he was already dead when officers broke into his flat three hours later.
The couple tied the knot in December 2006 in a pantomime-themed ceremony, and the afterparty was attended by numerous showbiz figures, Elton and Courtney Love among them.
Lucas admitted in an interview last month that the couple's break-up had been tough. He said, I'm in a much better place than I was. Time is a great healer.
