One of Elton's neighborhoods could soon be home to a Gypsy and travellers' camp.
The normally reserved residents of Old Windsor have been enraged by plans for the site close to Windsor Great Park, but fear reprisals if they object. The developer behind the scheme is a controversial businessman who owns mobile home parks across the country.
Maurice ''Fred'' Sines, a racehorse owner who claims Romany heritage, has plans that threaten the tranquillity of Old Windsor and Sir Elton's estate, which backs on to the land where the camp would be built.
A source claims said the vocalist was weighing up whether he should join his neighbours in objecting to the planning application.
Last week 300 angry residents, among them retired bankers, doctors, professors and airline managers, attended a meeting in protest at the plans.
