The 25th annual Easter Bonnet Competition ended up with a remarkable $3,706,085, the result of six weeks of intensive fundraising for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS by 52 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies. Billy Elliot was among the shows represented, and the event featured song and dance numbers as well as elaborate, custom-made bonnets.
Since the Easter Bonnet Competition began in 1987, more than $46 million fhas been raised for Broadway Cares.
The latest fund-raiser, which was attended by names like Robin Williams and Christie Brinkley, was held at New York's Minskoff Theatre, home to The Lion King.
Also in Manhattan, Saks Fifth Avenue's Charbonnel et Walker Chocolate Cafe is selling an exclusive item for a limited time.
In celebration of the Royal Wedding and all things British, chocolatier Charbonnel et Walker has teamed up with another English export, the Billy Elliot musical, to create Billy Elliot's Butterscotch Bread & Butter Pudding. The cafe is on the 8th floor of the department store, and the dessert is a modern take on a tradittional family favourte. The treat is available for $7 for the month of May and any customer who purchases one will receive a discount to see the Billy Elliot production.
In addition, the eatery has an exhibit, consisting of 16 photographs of Royal Family members like the Queen Mother and Prince Charles.
