Breaking News About Elton And His ''Union'' Album Collaborator

Tuesday 12 July 2011 @ 17:02 - GMT

Next month, Leon Russell's Live in Japan will be released by Omnivore Recordings, a year-old company made up of music insiders who each have spent at least 20 years in the industry.

This will mark the historic albums first release outside of Japan and its first time on CD anywhere. The original LP was recorded live on November 8, 1973, at Nippon Bukokan Hall and will see its nine tracks complemented by a bonus set of an additional seven previously unissued live performances recorded at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Texas on April 22, 1971. Some of the liner notes for this package were penned by Russell historian Steve Todoroffauthor of the upcoming biography, Longhair Music: The Songs And Sessions Of Leon Russell.

As exclusively revealed by Eltonjohnworld.com in May, Steve's book features an interview with Leon as well as input from the Rocket Man.

Tulsa Area Music Archives, the publisher, told EJW:

''We have intentionally waited to publish this past year to include as much as possible of the current Elton/Leon 'union.' We just recently licensed those great "green room" photos of Elton and Leon together from their appearance on the David Frost Show in the early Seventies.

''Elton used the session section of the book to prep for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech he put together to introduce Leon, and he was blown away. We hope to have an intro from Sir Elton prior to going to press.''

There are currently plans for Russell to sell the book, expected in the latter part of 2011, on his Web site and at his shows.
