Last year when Elton played Pennsylvania's Consol Energy Center, a supporter of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank had backstage access, and asked him to autograph a bowl for the charity.
Elton signed it with love (as seen below), and it was recently auctioned off for $338.
Iris Valanti, Director of Communications for the Food Bank, tells EJW that the rocker ''was in good company,'' with other bowls signed by Bono, Tom Cruise, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hines Ward and his Dancing With the Stars partner Kym Johnson, TV actress Mariska Hartigay, and rapper Jay Z, among others.
''Empty bowls is a meager meal of bread and soup that reminds us of the people who have trouble feeding their families. Attendees all get a handmade ceramic bowl to take home we get some 1,400 bowls donated from local professional and amateur potters, and 300+ gallons of soup about 1,300 people attend.
''Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank helps feed about 120,000 people every month in 11 counties in southwestern PA.''
The latest Empty Bowls Auction raised around $3,000. Last year, items with signatures from the likes of Paul McCartney, Dr. Oz, and Jon Bon Jovi were sold for the cause.
