Elton's Partner Discusses His ''Next Great Battle''--
April 2012 @ 15:57
Gay marriage is the 'next great battle' in the decades-long struggle for equal rights, Elton's partner has said in an exclusive Metro interview.
The issue is on a par with the campaigns for race and womens equality, David Furnish claimed. He spoke out as church and state head for a showdown over plans to legalise gay marriage by 2015.
The film director told Metro: ''I think were living in really pivotal times. Its the next great battle.
''Look at the history of civil rights relating to peoples nationality and colour. Black people were getting the right to vote in America not that long ago within lifetimes and parts of the world, where women dont have any rights at all or have very limited rights.'' But he concedes progress has been made.
