Kate Bush has won the prestigious pop award at this years South Bank Sky Arts Awards ceremony in London. Tom Jones presented her with the trophy for 50 Words For Snow.
Kate thanked Elton and Stephen Fry, who both appeared on the CD. She called the former one of her heroes.
The singer also thanked her husband, guitarist Danny McIntosh, and 13-year-old son, Bertie. She revealed that the teenager sang on Snowflake, the first track.
Known for being methodical, Bush joked that the record was one of her fastest to make. She said it just took a year to record, prompting laughter from the crowd at the Dorchester Hotel.
50 Words For Snow beat Adele's Grammy-winning bestseller 21 and PJ Harvey's Let England Shake. Other winners at the ceremony, hosted by Melvyn Bragg, included BBC1's Sherlock and the musical Matilda.
