On November 2, the Tay-Sachs Charity Auction will be held at the Holiday Inn in Westlake, OH.
Kenneth Bihn, who heads the Tay-Sachs Foundation, tells EJW that the goods include an autographed, framed black and white photograph of the Rocket Man.
He says they made a request by mail in 2008, and that ''Elton was kind enough to donate an autographed picture.''
''We offered the photo at the 2008 event and it sold to Rick Karl. Rick and his partner, Bruce Steiger, had a child via surrogate (Krystie Karl-Steiger) and amazingly that child had Tay-Sachs disease.
''Rick donated the photograph back this year as they are desperately working to help us raise funds to push Tay-Sachs research to clinical trial. Krystie is very sick and time is running out.
''Rick has been a huge supporter of the Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation and one of our best fundraisers.
''We are pushing toward clinical trials by March 2013.''
Last year's gala sold out, netting over $100,000 - the organisation's most successful since being founded in June 2007. So far the CTSF has raised almost $2.2 million for Tay-Sachs disease research.
Because there is not enough room, the November benefit is limited to 320 people.
There are still tickets available as of press time - they are $70 for adults and $40 for kids. A full table of 10 is $70.
