Arsenal captain frontrunner to be new manager

Tuesday 9 July 2002 @ 17:21 - GMT

Tony Adams, the England football player and captain of top Premiership team Arsenal, is being tipped as the frontrunner to take over the empty seat of manager at Elton's Watford Football Club.

With changes at Arsenal, it looks likely that Adams' playing days are over and he could be ready to switch into the management role.

It follows the sacking in June of Watford's manager Gianluca Vialli, after just one season when he succeeded retiring legend Graham Taylor (now back in work as manager of Aston Villa).

Although Elton John resigned from Watford as its chairman and life president later in the same month, and protested at the demise of Vialli as manager, there is no doubt that Elton remains a committed fan of Watford, the team he has followed since childhood.
