It's a small world, which got smaller on January 14, 2003, when jazzman Jimmy Scott performed an Elton and Bernie Taupin song at Europe's permier jazz club, Ronnie Scott's in London.
Small world because the song he performed, Seems to be The Hardest Word was mentioned in Herman's Habits (26) on this website this week, with reference to being covered in 1998 by Charlie (Bird) Parker protege jazz vocalist Scott on his album Holding Back the Years.
EJW.com reporter Mike Goodman, a Ronnie Scott's regular, told us that the song got a warm reception from the audience of about 100 people in the packed, intimate venue.
The club's impreassario later said: "It just goes to show how good the songs are that Elton John and Bernie Taupin write."
Mike adds: "His voice is a bit like Billie Holliday. Most of Soho's dead but Ronnies is almost fully booked."
[Jimmy Scott is on at Ronnie Scott's until the end of the week, but the venue is pre-booked. Standing room only if you are lucky! Ed.]
