Elton's Watford Football Club on March 9, 2003, secured themselves a place in the perstigious FA Cup semi-finals after beating Burnley 2-0 at home base Vicarage Road.
Both goals came late in the game, when Tommy Smith, back in action after a recent horrific car crash opened the scoring on 74 minutes. He was followed up by Stephen Glass who cut deep on 80 minutes.
Burnley never recovered in the final 10 minutes of the game.
The result came as a just reward to manager Ray Lewington, after the team's middle-of-league position in Division One this season.
And it provided ample distraction for Watford from its financial woes. Only last September the club's money problems became very public.
Elton remains Watford's Life President after quitting as chairman in May 2002.
