Did you know, Elton is Millennium Man? Many people will be (erroneously) preparing for the New Millennium on December 31, 1999. WRONG!
Elton's birthday was once regarded as the start of the New Year - so we should be celebrating the New Millennium on March 25, 1999! Only since 1582, when the Gregorian calendar was introduced, has New Year been celebrated on January 1. In England, it wasn't adopted until 1752, China 1912, Russia 1918, and Greece 1923!
Before 1582, the early Christian calendar was King, and March 25 seems an apt date: as spring is the season of new life. Christians used to call this date Lady Day (sorry Elton!). But Happy Birthday!
