Elton was feted by Broadway stars at the New Amsterdam Theatre in a concert to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) on April 3, 2000.

Nathan Lane and Christine Baranski were the hosts. They were joined by artists including Aida's Heather Headley and Sherie Rene Scott.

"This is Your Song" Broadway Sings Elton John saw Sandra Bernhart perform a dark version of Madman Across the Water, Betty Buckley sang Country Comfort, Honky Cat was performed by Deborah Gibson, Andrea Mcardle did Bennie and the Jets, and Adam Pascal performed Someone Saved My Life Tonight. Heather Headley came on stage for a version of Easy As Life from AIDA.

At the start of the second half, Elton appeared in one of the VIP side boxes. He watched most of the second half from there. Making his grand entrance in his "traditional style", Elton marched on stage, leading a pack of buffed buddies, with his diamond covered shoes leading the way. The audience was cracking up to his version of Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend. He also performed The Last Song and Circle of Life with the Choir.
