Many photos have been taken of Elton John. Now Elton hits back! His is among photos taken by celebrities offered for sale, in an AIDS charity auction.
Others include singers Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue and Bryan Adams, who were each given an Olympus camera to use. In all 50 celebrities, including Hussein Chalayan, and Naomi Campbell from the worlds of celebrity, art and fashion design have turned amateur photographer for the project.
Britney took photos of her pet dog and bodyguard. Elton has submitted two: one by his partner, David Furnish, of Elton's "star", set in the pavement of Hollywood Boulevard in 1975, and Elton's own portrait of his dog.
Few celebrities chose to photograph themselves, or each other.
Proceeds will be distributed by charity Fashion Acts to HIV- and Aids-related charities. Fashion Acts has already auctioned some of the photos, signed by the celebrities, at London's Imagination Gallery. Director Chris Bridge said: "The response has been amazing. We are hoping to beat last year's target of £40,000."
The remaining photos are on display at Mulberrys, New Bond St, London, from November 6, 2000, where visitors can place a silent bid, and will then be exhibited at Harrods in December.
