Bernie Taupin rarely grants interviews, but made an exception for the April/May 2004 Santa Barbara magazine. After all, his personal life is ''no one's business,'' and he can't imagine people being that interested.
Besides his painting, Bernie briefly discusses leaving school at 15. At that time, young men were expected to either join a factory or work on a farm.
He credits his mother, now 83, with inspiring him to write songs, calling her the ''most extraordinary woman'' anyone could meet. But there's another lady in his life now. He met Heather, his new wife, at a concert--''perhaps Arrowhead Pond,'' he muses.
