Thanks to a wide range of names such as Elton and Leonardo DiCaprio, NBC's January 15 benefit raised over $18 million, according to the AP on January 22, 2005.
This will go to the American Red Cross, which is assisting tsunami victims. Individual NBC stations netted another $10 million through separate telethons.
More recently, Elton laid down his vocals at London's Whitfield Studios for the star-studded Tears in Heaven single, which will benefit Save The Children in Asia. And on January 23, he played the Bastille Opera House in Paris. Proceeds of the three-hour show, which included attendees such as singer Charles Azvanour and British ambassador Sir John Holmes, will be used to build a shelter for Sri Lanka children.
