Musicians to Pay Homage to a Legendary Drummer

Written by Chief Editor.

As mentioned previously, Elton's former band member lost his battle with cancer at the age of 66.

EJW has learned that the funeral is being held this afternoon. A tribute from Elton is expected to be read, and it's possible there could be comments from a member of The Who, as Roger Pope was good friends with their late drummer, Keith Moon.

More recently, Pope worked with Martyn Ford (who arranged Blue Moves for Elton), on a project called 2020 Vision and played drums on a single called New Beginning with the Georgie Cullum Band. The song was produced by Martyn, written by Thao Nguyen and mixed at Universal Music Studios in LA.

Keith Haywood, the author of Tin Pan Alley: The Rise of Elton John, was also the performer's manager. He said of his client: “When Roger was in a room full of people he was like a magnet and everyone wanted a piece of him and he gladly gave it.”

Among Pope's survivors is his third wife, Sue Tressider.
