A Book And Vehicle Connected to One of Elton's Recording Partners

Written by Chief Editor.

EJW readers may recall an item about a book in the works to focus on Elton's collaborator on The Union.

It's been a couple of years since then, but Longhair Music: The Songs & Sessions of Leon Russell will soon be available. Although writer Steve Todoroff had informed this Web site that input from Elton was expected, this is most likely to be in the follow-up. First up is Volume 1, covering Leon's formative years and his ascent up the musical food chain in Los Angeles, where he became one of the most sought-after session musicians around.

The biography details Russell's extensive session career, including the hundreds of individual sessions he played on, and a photo, where available, of each individual 45 and LP where the session was released commercially.

In other news about Leon, his Web site reveals that he's selling his 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. This was daughter Honey's car, and is described as being silver and in good condition. Pictures should soon be available at www.leonrussellrecords.com, but in the meantime, if you are interested and find the listed price of $4,200 to be acceptable, you can send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
