Pupils from a Harrow school have chosen the names of four notable figures from their area to adorn the suites at a new 80-bed care home.
Year Five students at St George’s Catholic Primary School were given the honour of naming the rooms at Buchanan Court, a Care UK site in Sudbury Hill to open later this year.
Ms Neal said: “As we gear up to welcome the first residents to Buchanan Court later this year, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with St George’s Catholic Primary School and get to know our neighbours a little better.
“The ideas the pupils put forward were of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the four chosen names.”
As a sign of its appreciation, Care UK gave St George’s a voucher, which they can use to buy new books, while the children who chose the winning names received individual book tokens.
Shirley Sexton, a teacher at the school, commented:
“The suite naming activity not only gave the children an excellent opportunity to learn about the new care home here in Harrow, but it also encouraged them to think about the history and geography of their local area when seeking out inspiration for their entries.”
The new care home has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The establishment will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
