Elton John Recognitions in Mackay And Milan

Written by Chief Editor.

Before Elton played Mackay on Friday (the first in a series of Once in a Lifetime concerts Down Under), Mayor Greg Williamson said the tour would generate millions of dollars for the local economy.

The city has unveiled a permanent Yellow Brick Road mural in tribute to the performer's 1970s album, and has renamed the road to the stadium. It used to be called ''Casey Avenue,'' but is now known as ''Elton John Drive.''

"The mural is going to be a lasting legacy and we hope it's going to be here for decades, to just prove the fact that Elton was here in Mackay for a Once in a Lifetime event in 2017," Williamson said.

Elton has also influenced his friend Alessandro Michele. At the spring/summer 2018 Gucci show, the fashion designer offered up sequins, sunglasses and more.

In fact, the collection, which was shown on the first day of Milan Fashion Week, had Elton written all over it – literally. Several jackets had the initials EHJ stitched across the back.

Pictures of the goods can be seen at Vogue.com as well as on Elton's Instagram page.
