Elton Among Those Discussed in ''Socks, Sports, Rock And Art''

Written by Chief Editor.

Jules and Mike Belkin launched a long-running and successful concert promotion company from their dad's clothing store. By  the early 1970s, their business had become synonymous with rock 'n' roll in Cleveland.

A new biography by Mike and local writer Carlo Wolff chronicles the company's glory days with clients like the Who, Frankie Valli (who penned the foreword), the Rolling Stones, and the James Gang. Mike Belkin: Socks, Sports, Rock and Art has the bulk of its stories running through 2001- when the company was sold to SFX for nearly $11 million.

Belkin and his son Michael now work for the concert conglomerate Live Nation.

Both men were mentioned by Elton when he played Youngstown in 2010. There's a reference to this in Mike's book--as well as to the fact that Belkin Productions worked on the Byrds' Music Hall concert in Cleveland, on the 26th of November in 1970, where the opening act was none other than the former Reg Dwight.
