All Proceeds From Limited Edition Shoe Going Toward EJAF

Written by Chief Editor.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation is teaming up with Tamara Mellon.

The designer's best-selling sandal has gotten a limited edition upgrade in celebration of World AIDS Day.

The red velvet shoes are handcrafted in Italy, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the EJAF.

Tamara and Elton have been friends since her time at Jimmy Choo, collaborating to raise funds to pay for rape shelters in South Africa and distributing the PEP vaccines to rape victims at risk for exposure to the HIV virus. 'PEP' stands for post-exposure prophylaxis, the anti-retroviral drug that, taken within 72 hours of exposure, reduces the chance of contracting HIV.

One year, they were able to administer as many as 500,000 PEP vaccines.

At a 2010 gala, the EJAF paid tribute to Tamara for raising $3.5 million (as of that date) for the charity.
