Two New Zealand Shows Postponed Due to Illness

Written by Chief Editor.

On Sunday, Elton was in tears when his voice gave out during his Auckland concert.

The singer had informed the audience earlier that he had walking pneumonia but he ''didn't want to miss this.''

Elton was to play two more shows at Mt Smart Stadium this week. These have been rescheduled for Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16, in 2021.

In a press release sent to media, the Briton's promoters confirmed that the luminary would be postponing the concerts on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until next year after "further consultation from doctors and specialists".

Promoter Michael Chugg said Elton was "devastated" to postpone the shows but "has to listen to his doctors."

"But don't worry, you better believe he'll be back and better than ever in January next year," Chugg added.

With the songwriter fully booked for the remainder of the year as he completes his international Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, the earliest time he could return to New Zealand is January 2021.

Tickets for the Wednesday, February 19th engagement (previously Tuesday, February 18) will be valid for the Friday, January 15th concert next year.

Similarly, tickets for the Thursday, February 20th gig will be valid for the January 16th concert.

Concertgoers who are unable to attend the rescheduled shows next year will have to contact Ticketmaster to request a refund.

Meanwhile, Air New Zealand has introduced fare flexibility following the postponement of Sir Elton's final Auckland concerts to January 2021.

As a gesture of goodwill, concert-goers no longer requiring travel to Auckland in the coming days can have the value of their fare held in credit for up to 12 months. The airline will waive service fees but any fare difference when booking new flights will apply.

Air New Zealand Senior Manager Customer Care and Communications Doug Grant says fans don't need to contact the airline urgently to confirm their credit.

"Customers affected by the change in show dates can reach out to Air New Zealand via our social messaging channels or call our contact centre over the coming week."
