While the new season of America's Got Talent is yet to begin (it kicks off on NBC at 7 p.m. CST tonight), Simon Cowell has already given fans a preview of an inspiring audition.
On social media, the music mogul shared a video of Archie Williams' rendition of Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. The 59-year-old was wrongfully imprisoned for nearly 37 years after another man in the neighbourhood stabbed and raped a woman. One thing that kept him going was watching AGT, and dreaming of auditioning for the show.
Alongside the clip, Simon wrote that he'd never forget this audition. Nor will he ever ''listen to the song in the same way ever again.''
The America's Got Talent judge has signed up as an ambassador for the Innocence Project, which helped uncover new evidence and free Williams.
The man behind the hit also was touched. Elton wrote:
''I was moved to tears when I heard Archie's story and saw him perform Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. The courage and forgiveness shown by him is truly inspiring. The same spirit that the world found so inspiring with Nelson Mandela.''
