Bernie Taupin and Larry Mullen Jr. are among the more than 800 showbiz industry figures who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. That means they can now vote on Oscar winners.
Both men were invited to join the Academy by its Music branch. Taupin is a new Oscar winner for (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again, the song he and Elton wrote for Rocketman.
As for the U2 drummer, he's been nominated twice for an Academy Award, once for the song Ordinary Love from the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and once for The Hands That Built America, from Gangs of New York. He also has acted in a couple of motion pictures.
Others who have been welcomed abroad include makeup artists and hair stylists; costume designers; movie directors; cinematographers; casting directors; writers; publicists; and executives.
