HOW TO EARN ELTON GEMS, AND WHAT I GET WITH THEM:

Your Questions Answered, our Terms and Conditions Explained

In September 1997, Elton was made a Free Citizen of the City of Nice.
Well, now you can become a free citizen too!

You must earn SIX Elton Gems on your EJW.com Passport in one year to qualify for FREE CITIZENSHIP to all parts of EltonJohnWorld.com.

Subscribing gives you all the following. And Gems allows you to enjoy those benefits FREE next year!

That means you can

If you collect less than SIX Elton Gems within your first year of joining EJW.com you can TRANSFER your whole allocation to the second year, accelerating your chances of getting your renewal for FREE in Year 2! If you collect more than six Elton Gems within one year, you can carry over a surplus of up to two Gems to the next year.

WHAT QUALIFIES FOR A GEM, AND HOW?

You earn ONE Elton Gem for every:

Exclusive news on Elton John or Elton-related news
Concert you attended and reviewed
One top-quality contemporary photo of Elton in concert or elsewhere
Two less-quality contemporary photos of Elton in concert or elsewhere
One old photo of Elton, which has never been published before

So, there are lots of great ways to acquire your Gems!

AND?

The articles and photos must be YOUR property and have never been published elsewhere before

You allow EJW.com to reproduce these in full or in part. YOU reserve the right to re-publish your article elsewhere, but EJW.com requires you to ensure third parties attribute the article/photo as having appeared on EltonJohnWorld.com previously.

We will always credit the article/photo owner, unless you expressly ask us not to. We only publish name and city/country of domain.

We ask you to send your photos in j-peg format

and your articles in Miscrosoft Word

And email to:

George Matlock or Fran Gilles where they can be checked for any risk of viruses before being considered for publication.

Items emailed to our other addresses risk being ignored, as we
have a responsibility to all our Citizens to try to ensure a safe, harmonious, virus-free service.

For other formats of text or photo files, please check with us before
emailing. Thanks.

OK. SO HOW DO YOU WANT ME TO WRITE THIS ARTICLE?

Ensure it is supplied by email to George Matlock or Fran Gilles. Or post it, in typed paper format or PC diskette, to UK address (see above). You can also use our EASY ACCESS Writing Form to send us your text or photos.

Please follow these guidelines when emailing articles to your news editors:

  • Give a Headline. Make it clear rather than too witty! Get to the point fast. You can always return to an issue later in the article, but readers want to get the juice fast.
  • Keep it lively if you can. Offer personal observations if they appear to be valid and relevant. Make clear which parts are personal observations.
  • Spell out any acronyms on first reference that might be unfamiliar outside your region or area. JRE is better spelled out John Reid Enterprises.EJAF is Elton John AIDS Foundation. Spell out the name of songs and albums. So it is Songs from the West Coast, not SFTWC !
  • The more editing we need to do, the quicker we will tire and not award a gem. Have Mercy on the Editor!!
  • Remember, we want original material. So, no copying other fans, and no copying of newspapers!
  • However, we accept tip-offs from newspaper articles/tour news if we did not know about them. These can be as little as 30 words!
  • There is NO MAX or MIN length, it is more...what you think the article is worth. The editors reserve the right to edit back.

If you plan to write a mega-item....it may be awarded 2 and sometimes 3 Gems! BUT, please contact us FIRST, to discuss with us what you plan to write - it would be heart-breaking if you wrote something we didn't know about, and then, before you pushed the button, someone else got in first!

EJW.com editors reserve the right to decline publication, whether for Gems or not, any item of text or photography which it considers breaches the editorial policy detailed here, or which is irrelvant to Elton John fandom, carries an intent to offend, is deemed in poor taste or lacks probity.

PHOTOS:

Photos are more subjective, but we can spot a good photo and reward that with a Gem. Genuinely poor photos, or those which will not reproduce online successfully, will not achieve an Elton Gem. We have standards!

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FAN-FUN!

AND REMEMBER: Writing articles and sending photos is not about saving on an already competitive rate of subscription to EltonJohnWorld.com

It is more about having fun, expressing your fandom, and sharing your experiences with fellow fans. If fans stopped writing, ALL of us would be poorer. Share the fandom!

ACCEPTANCE OF CONDITIONS:
